Making the most of the nice weather

I’m wanting to go away for the weekend somewhere, somewhere in Scotland, either on the coast or just somewhere with a nice view. A nice place to visit, stay for a night or two, have something to eat, have a picnic, that type of thing.

Any ideas?

Dunkeld is beautiful – the Hilton hotel is very grand, not too expensive either. It has stunning scenery all around. It’s right next to the River Tay, too. Plus the view from inside the swimming pool sauna is breath taking. Not to mention it’s very outdoorsy, quiet, and relaxing.

You should have a wee look at it on the web Limmy; ‘Hilton Dunkeld House hotel’.

    There’s my wee effort.

    Take care.

It’s got to be Kilchoan, Ardnamurchan if you want to get away from it all, if you get the weather Sanna beach is quality.
Here’s the bonus, and what a bonus no mater what the weather you can get on the ferry, it will take you back to your Millport days same kind of ferry and all that
and you will be up on deck Polander in the breeze thinking it canny get any better
then, and this is the hing right, this is the hing. Your chilled taking in the veiw and then you round the corner on the other side and it will hit you….. bang your heart will start pumping you’ll be all excited grabbing Lynn going look look it canny be, it canny but it will be, it will be……….

  17. Gerard says:

A caravan holiday in Leven, heroin capital of Fife.

    Has a lovely beach.

  18. Broon Bottle says:

My old man has got two cottages in Luss. Look them up on Lochlomondhaven.com. They are first class.

  19. Addicted2Tunnocks says:

+1 for Kenmore, or somewhere around Loch Tay/Loch Earn. Relatively quick to get to, but a world away.

  20. yer maw says:

Is the weather no meant to be shite this weekend? If no, St Andrews is no bad -It’s a bit wanky but if ye can get past that, then it’s ok.

  21. Stephen Jackson says:

Islay’s lovely. I recommend the charming Mrs. Whyte at Glenegedale House. Legendary breakfasts. And have lunch at the Ardbeg distillery.

  22. Craig says:

Hard to beat Loch Lomond. It may be a bit cliched but it’s a beautiful up there and within short distance from Glasgow. For best value for money stay in the lodges, which are very reasonable but also nice and well equipped. Or there is plenty of hotels or B&B’s if you prefer.

Lomond – Limond it’s pratically the same. It’s meant to be…

  23. Innocent Bystander says:

So England is out is it? You don’t need a passport just yet.

  24. Gourock takes some beating.

Fuck all to do, so lots of time for introspection and prayer.

Good place to get your hole and crabs.

  25. Kenny A says:

Arran’s nice. You have to negotiate Ardrossan to get the ferry but….
Go for a walk up Goat Fell.

  26. Diamond Daz says:

Limmy you should come down to Largs, not that far away, cheap to get to. Then stay in a B&B or even in the brisbane hotel thats just been done up. Have a coffee and a cake or even dinner at the newly opened Nardinis. Take a stroll along the prom, get a cone, even jump on a ferrie to Millport! haha.

No Seriously, Largs is hoaching with folk arriving on trains on a good day at the weekend. Plenty of nice places to eat too.

  27. Someone said Skye. I’d agree with that.

  28. dubnobasswimaheid says:

Airdrie is nice this time of year…

  29. Diamond Daz

You have an obvious interest in promoting that dump Largs. Are you a small local trader by any chance? Brisbane Hotel, Nardinis, coffe and cake and dinner too. You forgot canapes, brunch, fine wines and the fuckin’ Hoi Polloi.

I’ve never managed to get ma hole in Largs – ever!

Largs is pish and you know it.

If you want your hole. Gourock’s the place.

  30. fiona says:

We went here a couple of years ago http://www.auchrannie.co.uk/

It has a traditional hotel and a newly built spa complex next door. The rooms in the hotel are country house style and the spa rooms are modern. The food was great when we were there, loads of local seafood and massive buffet breakfasts :) The spa complex has a big sauna & steam room next to the pool and the old hotel has a smaller pool and sauna complex. They also have a big therapy suite where you can book massages, reflexology, etc (might help your back problem) We stayed in the old house, not the spa complex. They bring you wee trays of canapes while you’re having a pre-dinner drink in the bar and take your order there. It’s nice and it seems to get good reviews online.

Och, I hate recommending places to folk in case they’ve gone shite but the consensus round here is that it’s still really nice. And Arran is lovely, loads to see and do (I’m starting to sound like a right wank) You can get a train from Central straight through to Ardrossan Harbour ferry terminal (thus avoiding having to actually set foot in Ardrossan itself).

Anyway, that’s my two pennies worth. I’m sure you’ll have a nice time wherever you go – it’s all about the company at the end of the day.

  31. Naz says:

I’m away to Fort William for a wedding. Next weekend I’m away camping to the Beinglass campsite behind the Drovers Inn.

    It’s a great wee spot.

  32. rooster says:

Mull is great for cycling as well. Lots of wee hellish harsh hills followed by long descents through forests and glens.

  33. donk says:

Do you think the Limster is a fuckin’ cretin?

They’re really nice people. I haven’t stayed at one of their places myself but they look nice.

  40. mickredsun says:

I wouldnae go to strathaven this weekend, the bucks head’s shut, so no dance-offs to be had!

  42. Robbie says:

Come down to Balloch for a wee visit. Its 45 minutes from Glasgow, its got some nice pubs, a few good places to eat and ye can take yer dug round the park. No got a dug? Girlfriend will do. Check out http://www.visit-balloch.com before you go.

Oh aye, my friend says he shook your hand after your show at the festival. Big wow eh!

  43. Mr Horse says:

Doon the watter, fae Glesga to Dunoon. Bring your wallet though, costs £6.45 for four tins of tuna. Fucking disgrace.

  44. Nivster says:

Isle of Arran is your best bet. Train (45 mins)straight to the pier.Nice boat journey (50 mins). There are lots of nice walks there. The standing stones on Machrie Moor are worth a look. Glenashdale Falls is a good walk. Also the Kings Cave in Blackwaterfoot is a nice beach walk. Its where Robert the Bruce was meant to have watched the spider. The cave is big and has old stone age carvings in it. Just remember to ask for the key in the wee shop so you can get in the cave. Its fenced off. Though you can clamber under the railings. Brodick castle gardens are good for chilling out. Dont pay in though. Go up the path before the main gate pointing to Goat Fell. It cuts through the gardens so you get in for free. There are a couple of nice wee bakeries for your cake fix. It feels like you are a million miles away when you go there.

  45. el niño says:

    Plockton. Great views/beaches/food………..
great drive to get there n’a

  46. Nivster says:

I mentioned old stone age carvings. Sometimes you get those new stone age carvings in places like Port Glasgow.

  47. Mark Gowdie says:

    Oban?

  48. Soviet Arms Dealer says:

Just get to Tiso, buy a tent and head to Loch Tay, do it properly, it’s great on the side of the water up there.

  49. dave says:

if the weather gets decent….the silver sand beaches up at dornoch in sutherland are really nice.

  50. Kendo says:

    Benderloch!

Just outside Oban, private beaches, lovely views, a mountain tae climb (Ben Lora), A sea life centre, nice resteraunts, almost no tourists

There’s a nice wooden lodge two mins fae the beach http://www.tralee.com/Lodges.aspx

Bikes tae hire, great walks, good transport links

    Enjoy it!

    P.S. Nae benders in sight

  51. Diamond Daz says:

Eff Be Aye Right – Im the mayor of Largs, and i now declare you barred! 1 for saying my fair town is a dump and 2 cos you never got your hole down here EVER. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

You must be fucking pot ugly or just a total weirdo.

Gourock is full of cardigan wearing, too good for Word Up wannabes. Folk from there remind me of the Yes or No man.

  52. Yvonne says:

    Aye Gairloch’s lovely.

  53. Balsh says:

North Berwick. they used to have a woolies.

  55. gevans says:

A bit of a trip for you but how about the Black Isle (Fortrose / Rosemarkie or
Cromarty). Great places, loads of east cost sun and loads of intresting stuff to see and do in the area. You might even see me up there on Channoary point).

  56. bawbagdotcom says:

  59. Marky says:

Strathpeffer has THEE BEST Chocolate Shop known to mankind. Fact.

  60. Regular? says:

Seamill? You can stay at the Hydro there (Scotland and Celtic teams used to stay there). Stunning scenery, right on a decent beach and 10 mins between Ardrossan and Largs so you can head to Millport or Arran for the day if you fancy it too. Really small place so a bit quiet but sounds like that sort of thing you’re looking for. Less than an hour from Glasgow as well.

  61. Dangercall says:

FionaF, you stole ma suggestion. Great minds think alike. :-)

  62. General Smut says:

Agree with the Drovers Inn. . . great pub and a good laugh. . .and mad stuffed animals all about ye.

  63. Mike says:

    HELENSBURGH!!!!!

  64. Disco says:

I agree with Donna on Gairloch

I would go for Arisaig though, being a bit closer. Catch the train up to Fort William, onto the Hogwarts Express out to Arisaig, enjoy the sandy white beaches and turquoise seas, take in some stunning scenery of Eigg and that, you cant go wrong.

  65. Diamand Daz

I’ll meet you at Lunderston Bay then for a square go if you want.

And after I pugilise you good I’ll take you up to Gourock and you can get your hole. Being the mayor of Largs is the next best thing to royalty in Gourock so even if’n your ugly as fuck which you probably are, coming from Largs, you should manage your hole all right.

If none of our locals girls are drunk enough to accomodate you, you can dae what your forebears the vikings did, and get involved in a bit of woomber, rape and pillage.

Limbert the directions for Gourock are easy. Come out your house and ask some cunt, a cyclist preferably, at least one whose IQ runs to double figures
” Excuse me Pal. Im planning on visiting Gourock can you help me with directions.” Sure Pal grab a hold of the back of my saddle and I’ll gie yie a tudgie. We’ll be in Gourock within the hour.”

  66. Graham says:

Largs is actually really nice when its sunny. And theres Nardini’s ice cream :)

  70. Limmy says:

    Thanks for the suggestions, everybody.

  94. BigRoundBaby says:

    Guilty Bystander

    Love it!!

  95. Limmy says:

Neilbysan, I’m considering all the options, all the options.

I’m listening to all these suggestions, folks, thanks for giving me them. Hope I don’t sound like an ignorant cunt for not replying to every one.

  96. trolley boy says:

Whatever you do, dont listen to cunts that prattle on about Auchrannie in Arran.Bag of shite it was. Service was pish and so was the grub. If its Arran your off to stay at The Kildonanan. Better staff, service and views.

  97. Beester says:

Hows about a wee cabin in fort william? Or if u wanna rough it a a (semi)heated caravan in nairn?? It has a curly slide!!

  98. Rachel says:

I’d say either Arran or Islay – both are equally gorgeous, although Islay does have the most fantastic beach I’ve seen.

When I was wee we used to go to Arran and rent bikes and cyle round the island which was lovely. You get a wee certificate and everything when you finish haha.

  99. Herbie Vore says:

Fuck going out the house these days unless you have to. Its a fuckin jungle out there.

My advice : Stay in and have a right good whistle to yourself.

I had a fuckin beauty yesterday. I went from The Lord is my Shepherd right into the Buggles classic, Video Killed the Radion Star. My wife said it was one of the best mixes I had done in a long time. I capped it of by mixing Koombahya with Ozzie Osbourne’s : ‘Bats, Squirrels and Rabbits all Taste the Fucking same when you eat them raw.’

The world is music is your oyster as we whistlers say.

  100. i'manalligator says:

Book a train to arisaig 2 days in advance on apex and get it half price. Got voted the best train ride in the world, Harry Potter bridge etc. Then stay in the Old Library Lodge, drop my name, go walking to carmastarach beach, play in the dunes n that. Sorted. Mabye for next time anyway.
