My review of 88 Minutes

Me and Lynn were at a loose end on Friday night, so we wandered into Cineworld, and we went to see the next thing on that looked half decent: 88 Minutes, starring Al Pacino.

Shite. Utter shite. The story, the patter, the music, the lot. It reminded me of a 90s episode of Columbo.

The biggest advert for piracy I’ve seen for a long time.

Ive not seen this. I normally like Al Pacino in films.

His new film righteous kill with Robert De Niro looks good.

  2. Mick says:

I just saw Taken, genius, Liam Neeson sorting cunts out with some brutal violence.
Good way to spend a monday night.

  3. Jay says:

Or biggest the reason to ignore the cinema and hit bar ?

  4. scot says:

This was a straight to dvd in the US last year and yes it was utter shite!

  5. jacob says:

funny you should say that limbobs as i know a guy called gary muggleton.

he’s only 15 but he’s pure into halloween and he giggles more than a girl than me

    think about it!

  6. Dinzy says:

looks as pish as Pacino’s turkey neck (he’s no hidin anyhin the old ride).

Go and see Taken. Big Rob Roy punchin folk right in the neck and wearin crackin leather jackets.

  7. Paul says:

It’s a shame how Al Pacino got shite isn’t it.

Watch something like Glengarry Glen Ross or Dog Day Afternoon and you see how good he was.

Now he just looks like a bit of a jakey.

  8. lazyranchhand says:

I think it’s totally quaint that there are people out there who still have faith in any movie starring Al Pacino.

  9. MC_RIBS says:

    Al pacino is fucking shite.

  10. Jobbo says:

I make a point not to go and see anything with them in it.I don,t know the last time they two old boys did anything of quality.

  11. Hanta says:

Haha it was like a shitty Columbo. When was Al Pacino last in something decent? Same with De Niro.

  12. T.J. Hooker says:

A loose end, a loose end eh? Aye well know whits a good thing to do when your at a loose end Limmy??? Aue, that’s right plank ma DVD!

It would have been better than watching that shite and it would have saved you over a tenner.

I think that I well deserve a copy of your new DVD now Limmy!

  13. Yvonne says:

TJ Hooker, face it mate – you’ll never get it now.

  14. Philip says:

Hold on a minute. Columbo was pretty cool.

    He had googly eye.

  15. Mr JipJop says:

    gary muggleton says….. Requiem

  16. Jeff says:

“The biggest advert for piracy I’ve seen for a long time.” Indeed, I saw it months ago. It was shite then too.

  17. Limmy says:

    Philip Says:
“Hold on a minute. Columbo was pretty cool.”

I’m talking aboot the ones in the 90s, Philip. The 90s ones, the 90s ones.

  18. Roach says:

Mick, thanks for reminding me that I was supposed to go and see Taken last night but instead got roped into going to Asda then sticking 100′s of wedding photos into my wedding album. Thanks for that. At least if you’d said it was shite and the worst way to spend a Monday evening, then I could have felt better about the whole thing.

Taken looks like the only decent thing on at the cinema at the moment. Has anyone seen Tropic Thunder or whatever the fuck it’s called?

  19. Del says:

The 90s Columbos were shite. Big budgets, bug stars, but shite writing. Its all about the story. The one with Billy Connolly I hoped would be good – utter pish. My favourite is a toss-up between either William Shatner or Orson Wells – classics.

Advocating piracy? Next you’ll be telling us the ‘unique way the BBC is funded’ is a joke (I remember that phantom post). Unless you are part of the unique way its spends its money.

Del Haters, for the record, I should say that I think the TV License is a great way to fund media and there couldn’t be a better way to spend a bit of the Scottish budget than on a Limmy TV show.

  21. jacob says:

fuck columbo and fuck the tamil tigers

    dreadful nation sri lanka

  22. hector says:

Cannae possibly be as bad “Fay Grim”.

That cunt robbed over 2 hours of my life the other night…Worst film I’ve seen since dogville….still fuming!

  23. Scott says:

“It reminded me of a 90s episode of Columbo.”

    THat bad?

ON the scale of 90s Columbo – how bad though?

As bad as the episode where Tyne Daly plays a southern doll (working on the basis that that reaches the nadir)? Or the one with the students who kill the guy in the car park in a poor attempt to exhibit the influence of Hitchcock’s Rope (still bad but watchable)?

Or are we at “Mrs Columbo” levels of awfulness?

  24. Amanda says:

I don’t have a clue what this is all about. But can I just say I concur with Jacob, that Gary really does giggle like a girl.. even more than Jacob himself does. Mind you, Jacob just giggles like a woman, not a girl, so it’s not the same is it. Sorry. I’m rambling. I’ll stop now.

  25. Philip says:

    Just one more thing…

That’s what Columbo used to always say when he pure owned the bad guy. Remember he always acted like a clueless fanny and let the bad guy think he got away with it, and then he’s like “Thats great John, that’s great, hey, just one more thing…”. Fucking case CLOSED man.

  26. Tiffany says:

Maybe you should have went to the GFT instead. It’s just up the road a bit, and makes you sound all cultural and that. You could have seen a french film and kidded on it was dead good even though it wasn’t really.

  27. The Wilsonator says:

rightuous kill is no bad. theres a dvd rip of it available from your favourite dodgy website

  28. Tom says:

88 Minutes looks shite. Same director as Righteous Kill. Which is crap.

  29. Andrea says:

Wait sorry but I wanna hear more about this Gary Muggelton. I walked in a bar the other day and heared a (or what I thought) was a lil girl laughing. Turned out to be a 40 year old man with a voddy to his lips. Now I just wonder you said this Gary is only 15 but i think we are talking about the same person….oh and good job there Limmy funny shit

  30. Maz Lass says:

I recomended this film to you all & I saw it as a pre premier this evening and its great! The producer was in the audience, and helt a speech about how it was made +++ and well one word about the film; amazing !

  31. Stevie Boy says:

I think that guys like De Niro, Pacino and that fanny Connery get old and typecast and just stop acting in roles. They just meet out the same characters again and again and it’s your mind that makes the distinction of them being tough, cool, hard etc…

Look at Connery in Highlander as Juan Sanchez Villa Lobos Ramirez. Same Connery, same patter, same accent…

“What am I here, oh I’m a bloody Shpaniard in this one, lishen McLeod…”

Every one of them pish, to a man…

  32. Al Cook. says:

Ever seen Al Pacino try his hand at a cockney accent?

  33. fionaf says:

Del, I agree with you (fucking faints with shock) 90′s Columbo = utter bobbins, 70′s Columbo = Genius. I never get watching Columbo these days cos my other half has a pathological hatred of Peter Falk.

Tell you what I used to love as a kid – ‘Petrocelli’. Anyone remember that. Gripping it was, gripping.

Limmy, finally watched Godfather Part 3. Deeply disappointing. Al Pacino played Michael like Frank Slade from ‘Scent of a Woman’ – absolute mince. Raging I watched it now, knew I shouldn’t have.

  34. Del says:

FionaF, you agree with me that often, you should really be over the shock by now. And if you like Petrocelli, you must be older than I thought.

  35. Dave says:

Del, are you ready to faint? I agree with you as well.

FionaF, “petrocelli”? Is that Italian for petrolium jelly?

  36. scott says:

me and my friends saw u there actually! we went to see ‘fall’ an amazing film i recommend to anyone

  37. fionaf says:

    Dave, Petrocelli – http://timstvshowcase.com/petrocelli.html

Del, you must have realised by now that I am an auld bitter woman. I also remember ‘The Rockford Files’, Dave Allen (my first crush!!), Dick Emery, Noggin the Nog (!!), dially-type phones that were hard-wired into the wall and you had a party line with the neighbour, Special K when they looked liked flattened rice krispies, TV’s that had legs and were built into a wooden cabinet with doors, Tennents lager with the pictures of women on the cans and so many more scary 70′s type things. I was born in 1968 so I’m into my 5th decade now. That’s why I keep having kids, so I can fool myself I’m still 25 :D
