Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows review

I’m just after listening to the audiobook, narrated by Stephen Fry.

I thought it was a bit dull. Maybe it was Stephen Fry’s fault, but there were a lot of times I felt like I was listening to a half hour of padding until I got to the next important bit, e.g. “Ginny’s bedroom was small, but bright. Hanging from one wall, she had a collection of blah, blah, blah. The opposite wall was decorated with etc., etc., etc. Harry noticed that her window had a view of the so on and so forth”.

I just wanted to know why Harry Potter was able to do such and such and if thingy really did do what he did or if it was just part of a bigger plan.

I was happy with the explanations of a few things, but there were other things that were explained away too easily with magic. There was me wondering why Harry’s wand would always [whatever], and it turns out that that’s just the way it is when this and that happens.

I’ll shut up, cos I’m starting to sound like this cunt:

    Limmy,

Is the Fringe an earner or is it at best break even.

  2. lynn says:

May I remind you that ‘Harry Potter’ is a childrens book.

  4. BigFatJim says:

sorry about that, couldn’t help myself…

    Worst. Post. Ever.
Does the audiobook come with a choice of covers for the ashamed adult listener?

Just finished reading the book today- I’m highly impressed that in this world where everybody finds such joy in revealing storylines and twists that you abstained! But you’re right about padding, I didn’t really care that Sirius’s bike had a small scratch by the rear tyre and several small pebbles stuck in the treads etc.

  7. Harris says:

And lay off the cakes because you’re starting to look a bit like that cunt, too.

You LOOK like him too! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

    I am immature.

    SIMPLY GAY

I would have thought the adult who read these books for kids, would be a prime target for mockery on your site.

Wee WEANS like the padding….that’s the POINT!

“Limmy, you know how you said that Ginny’s bedroom was small but bright? Well, is the Fringe an earner?”

    Fucking belter.

  13. CHELSEA BOY says:

Fry’s a hypocrite ‘cos he put “adults that read Harry Potter ” into Room 101 when he was on with Paul Merton, and tae think I admired the man….

You fucking spoiled it me for now.

Harry books are amazing, shup the lot of you. But agreed, many parts of this book were quite disappointing. Especially the epilogue, whit the fuck was that all about, it was just a who’s who of procreation and apparently no one ever looks further than to their left for a life partner.
I like your little insights, Limmy, random as they may be. I think there’s only two types of people in this world – those who get Limmy’s stuff, and those who don’t. And those who don’t are possibly soulless (this is still awaiting confirmation)

  16. Earl says:

Who decides which books get press (Harry Potter) and which get censored? After all, censorship is becoming America’s favorite past-time. The US gov’t (and their corporate friends), already detain protesters, ban books like “America Deceived” from Amazon and Wikipedia, shut down Imus and fire 21-year tenured, BYU physics professor Steven Jones because he proved explosives, thermite in particular, took down the WTC buildings. Free Speech forever (especially for books).

Well, I must say i liked HP books and am sorry it’s the end. I think the books gave much to me, especially a character Severus Snape who was an amiable person and I’ll try to follow his attitude once at school, teaching kids :) Sorry for mistakes if there are any (I’m not a Scotwoman, neither is English my mother tongue) but I assume my comment is such a mental jewel, that it hardly matters..
